Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Secretary General Asad Umar announced his resignation from the party posts. He clarified that he is not leaving the party but resigning from the positions of Secretary General and Core Committee member, it is his personal decision and he is not leaving the positions under any pressure. Asad Umar said that at present the country is suffering from a dangerous situation and only political parties can get out of it through negotiations.
Addressing a news conference at the National Press Club, Islamabad, Asad Umar said that what happened on May 9 was very dangerous for the country. On that day, military installations were attacked. Imran Khan gave the best analysis of the importance of the army. If we look back at the Muslim countries, how did the disaster spread? If Pakistan did not have a disciplined and powerful army, we would have faced situations like Syria and Iraq. The scenes we saw that day are condemnable. An alarming message has gone out, there should be a transparent investigation in this regard, the people involved should be punished, thousands of workers are under detention, a large number of them are innocent people, it is very important to release them as soon as possible.
He said that currently there are five major stakeholders in Pakistan. The judiciary is divided, Pakistan Army is the second stakeholder. The third stakeholder is Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Pakistan’s largest and national party, most of whose leaders and activists are in jail. PDM is our political rival, if elections are held today, PTI will form the government in the Federation, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and PDM will form the government in Sindh and Balochistan, and PDM will form the opposition in the Federation. His politics have sunk in the last 13 months. The fifth stakeholder is the people of Pakistan, who have faced the worst inflation in the last 13 months.
He said that if there is a problem among all the stakeholders, then it means that something needs to be done differently. At present, Pakistan is facing a more dangerous situation than 71. It is the responsibility of the political parties to get the country out of here. There is The Chief Justice and the army is saying that the issues should be resolved through dialogue, Pakistan’s friendly countries are also saying the same, if everyone is supporting dialogue, then we need to sit and solve it.
Asad Umar said that in the situation after May 9, it is not possible for me personally to carry out the responsibilities of leadership, and I will resign from the positions of the core committee membership and secretary general. In response to a question, he clarified that he had only resigned from the posts. There is no pressure on him, it is his personal decision, if there was pressure, he would have left the party, but he has only left the posts.
He said that I pay tribute to the workers and ticket holders of Tehreek-e-Insaf from my heart. I want to thank them for the patriotism with which they have worked as the Secretary-General. The workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf are a great asset to Pakistan. There are, many of these innocent people are currently in captivity, they should be released immediately.
A journalist asked whether Imran Khan’s wrong decisions have led to this state of the party. On this, Asad Umar said that the soul of Tehreek-e-Insaf was Imran Khan, the decisions he made him the Prime Minister and the most popular leader of the country, and the people of Pakistan will not decide his wrong decisions.
Will they try to bring Shireen Mazari and Fawad Chaudhry back to Tehreek-e-Insaf? In response to this question, Asad Umar said that it is his personal decision, and he will have his reasons.
