Shaheen Afridi belongs to Afridi, a tribe of Pashtuns۔ He grew up in Landi Kotal, a town in the Khyber district of Pakistan. He is the youngest of five brothers. His eldest brother is Riyaz Afridi. Riyad Afridi, 15 years his senior, played a solitary Test match for Pakistan in 2004.
Fast bowler Shaheen Afridi started his cricket career at Tatara, a ground in Lindi Kotal, named after the Tatara hills. Riyaz Afridi introduced Shaheen to hardball cricket in 2015 at the FATA Under-16 Trials. In those days, Shaheen played only tennis ball cricket and did not know hard ball.
